ZTE (ZhongXing Telecommunications Equipment) was founded in 1985 by chinese multinational telecommunication and smartphone manufacturer. ZTE is one of the world’s oldest mobile brands in Nepal along with Nokia and Motorola. Though having a small audience, ZTE played a significant role in shaping Nepal’s telecommunications landscape.

Telecom Foundations (1985-2000):
ZTE started as a telecom equipment supplier in Shenzhen, China and entered the mobile phone market in 1998.
Global expansion (2010s):
In around 2012, Zte became a top 5 global smartphone vendor competing with Huawei and Samsung. In 2016- 2018 ZTE faced U.S sanctions over trade violations.
Rebound (2016-2024)
ZTE again entered Nepal in 2016, however only temporarily before it exited due to competition.
