Xiaomi has grown to become the world’s third largest Chinese smartphone brand by 2024. This unprecedented growth was made possible by their “flagship killer” marketing strategy. Starting in April 2010, the company was founded by serial entrepreneur Lei Jun, who Xiaomi is often said to be “revolutionizing” the smartphone industry by selling high-spec phones at half the price of its competitors.

Beginning era (2010-2013):
Initially, Xiaomi launched MIUI custom Android ROM in 2011. Similarly. In 2011, their first smartphone brand Xiaomi Mi 1 was released which sold more than 300,000 units within 3 months. Later in 2014, Xiaomi decided to enter India which now is its largest international market.
Global Expansion (2014-2018):
In 2014, Xiaomi became the world’s most valuable startup ($46B valuation). Xiaomi entered Nepal in 2016 through official distributor V.S. International. They released the Redmi Note Series that dominated Nepal’s Budget Segment.
Premium Push (2019-Present)
In 2019, Redmi separated as a sub-brand. Xiaomi became Second Global Smartphone Brand Surpassing Apple July 2021. In 2024, Xiaomi launched Xiaomi 14 Ultra with Leica partnership.
